Remarkable & Boosting Benefits of Lemon Water

Summer brings hotter weather, parched skin, and the need for extra hydration. Drinking lemon water is one beneficial way to improve your health and add a simple, healthy habit to your day.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Even the smallest changes in your routine can have a big impact on your health. Take starting your day with lemon water, for instance.”

Lemon water is a healthful, low-calorie, and low-sugar beverage that can boost a person’s vitamin C intake. Lemon water is simply water with added lemon juice. The amount of lemon depends on your preference.

Once a week, I fill a mason with freshly squeezed lemon juice so that it is ready for use. Add half of a fresh squeezed lemon to 8 ounces of warm or hot water, first thing in the morning before coffee or food.

According to the Edison Institute of Nutrition, drinking warm lemon water provides these brilliant benefits:

  • Lemon juice acts as a digestive and a detoxifying agent and helps in cleaning the liver leading to better digestive health, which helps regulate natural bowel movement.
  • Lemon juice is also an effective way to reduce weight as it increases the body’s metabolic rate. For people looking to use lemon for its weight loss abilities, drinking lemon juice with warm water on an empty stomach every morning can produce amazing results.
  • Drinking lemon juice with warm water every morning helps in maintaining the pH balance of the body.
  • Lemon juice with warm water is also good for your dental health as it helps with toothache and prevents gingivitis.
  • Drinking lemon juice with warm water also helps reduce joint and muscle pain.

According to Medical News Today, Lemons are a rich source of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. One squeezed lemon provides around 21% of a person’s daily value (DV).

Vitamin C is essential for immune system function, wound healing, and helping the body absorb iron from foods.

Lemons are rich in a plant compound called flavonoids, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. These are compounds that help boost health and fight disease.

Antioxidants help protect the body’s cells from damage, which reduces the risk of many health conditions, including:

· cardiovascular disease

· diabetes

· obesity

· cancer

· improve heart health

· improve metabolic health markers: including glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity, and fat metabolism.

Research has linked chronic inflammation with increased oxidative stress and the risk of certain health conditions including arthritis, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and cancer.

Lemon water contains high amounts of citrate. Numerous studies have found that citrus fruits, including lemon, can increase urine levels of citrate, which may help treat kidney stones.

I hope that learning more about the benefits of lemon water will encourage a new and healthy habit for you this summer. Cheers to better health!

I love drinking lemon water! I use to always request lemons at restaurants because the water didn’t taste great, but years later learned how good it is for you!

I didn’t realize it helps with joint/muscle pain. Looks like I need to up my lemon intake. Makes me wish I had M&D’s lemon tree in G town.

I also like to add mint and cucumber in the summer for added hydration and flavor. I make a big pitcher of it and leave it in the fridge to infuse all night and then drink the next day. 🙂

In the summer, I also love to make a watermelon salad with a lime juice dressing. It is so refreshing and hydrating!
