How can you be thankful during difficult seasons in life? Look for the positive! There will be rays of sunshine after a storm, maybe even a rainbow!
I see the American people stepping up, the church living faith outside the confines of a building, and God’s goodness. When you’re looking for the good that can come from the worst of times – you see through the clouds. You see the fingerprints of God, the best in people, and you see yourself grow and transform.
Romans 8:28 is a well known verse, appropriate now, as it is God’s Word and Truth. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
When we look back after this spring, I want to remember the amazing stories of hope. That is why I encourage you again, to keep a journal of your own journey through this season. God will do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine – it’s just His way.
Here are a few highlights that I found noteworthy:
*Americans are stepping up by staying in. Streets are eerily quiet. Working from home, homeschooling, ministry online, college classes from home, and on work hiatus… everyone doing their part to protect their family and one another. It’s a team effort, it’s unnatural, difficult – but worth it. I’m proud of us and it’s beautiful!
*American companies working together for good. Some usual rivals are working together to create test kits, make testing sites available, and share resources. Corporations are stepping up to do what the government simply can’t do. For example, General Motors and two partners have combined their efforts to build more ventilation systems for hospitals during the novel coronavirus pandemic. I want to burst out singing, “Proud To Be An American!”
*We are being the church outside our buildings: Churches around the world are holding online services, ministries are continuing in creative ways like Zoom meetings, delivering food, and sending out encouraging video messages and devotions.
*God knew we’d need cozy weather in March. In California, January & February are statistically our rainiest months, but not this year. A dry Jan/Feb has unleashed rain nearly every day in March, as we all stay home. Family in Boston is reporting snow finally! A dear friend in Montana, sent a picture of a snow angel, as they received new snow, after they thought the thaw had arrived.
*Our country uniting in Prayer: We have not been this united since 9/11 or maybe ever – as everyone is impacted right now. From the National Day of Prayer to round the clock prayer chains, praying for our nation’s leaders as they make decisions, to those caring for patients, those without work, or parents home with kids.
Today is The Great American Takeout – support your local small businesses and order food for pick up, if you can.
I believe we will be better and stronger after weathering this storm.
